Hastings athletes celebrated at board meeting after multiple state titles, meet records

Students and coaches from Hastings High were honored in a Raiders Spotlight for spring state championships in adaptive softball and multiple track events; athletes described results, records and future plans and coaches praised character and participation.
At the July 15 Hastings Public Schools board meeting, administrators and coaches recognized students who won Minnesota State High School League state championships in adaptive softball and track and field.
Assistant principal and athletic director Trent Hansen introduced the group and noted the Dakota Hawks adapted softball team’s repeat state title and highlighted Nolan, a sophomore who has earned multiple state championships across sports. Coach Jason Cook and other staff described multiple state meet records set by Hastings athletes, including Sebastian Strauss’s state record in the 400‑meter final and state championships in the 200 and 400 meters as well as relay teams that set all‑time state meet records.
Students on the dais described their experiences at the state meet and their training commitments; one senior listed college plans (running track at the University of Minnesota, South Dakota State, Bethel or University of South Dakota as stated by students). Board members presented medals, praised the athletes’ character and discussed the practical challenges of travel and practice for adaptive and winter sports that require offsite facilities.
The spotlight emphasized both athletic achievement and student character. Coaches and board members asked families and the public to continue supporting the programs and to post and share recognition on social media.
