Dunmore Council votes to seek grants for community center flooring and Chestnut Street work

Dunmore Borough Council on Oct. 13 approved two resolutions asking external funders to pay for a community-center flooring replacement and further Chestnut Street improvements.
Resolution No. 11 of 2025, submitted by Council President Janet Brier, asks Monroe County’s Local Share Assessment (LSA) for $49,500 to replace community-center flooring throughout the Dunmore Community Center except for the gym. Brier said the floors date to 2006 and that the gym floor is refinished annually. Councilmember Michael Dempsey moved the resolution; Patrick Loughney seconded. Council members voted in favor.
Resolution No. 12 authorizes Lackawanna County to apply for fiscal 2025 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding of $200,523 to continue Chestnut Street improvements. Borough Manager Greg Wolff said the CDBG-eligible work would cover sidewalks and paving in income-qualified areas around Chestnut and Elm Streets. William O’Malley moved the resolution; Thomas Hallinan seconded. Council voted aye.
Both resolutions are requests for grant funding; Council members noted award decisions and project scopes are subject to county and state review and standard eligibility rules. No binding borough expenditures were reported for either item at the meeting.
The council also approved routine business items earlier in the meeting, including minutes and payment of open bills. The meeting adjourned after brief public remarks and local announcements.
