Board meeting highlights new hires, STEM and expanded student programs

Several classroom and support hires introduced their backgrounds: Laura Parsons (S1) said she would assist in the weight room and with attendance reporting; Joel Wilman (S8) said he will teach algebra and secondary math courses; and Leslie Galindo (S4) outlined her work as a special‑education teacher and behavior‑analysis consultant who will write behavior plans and functional behavior assessments for students with complex needs.
Administrators reported enrollment updates (several grade-by-grade counts provided in the meeting) and said the district had departmentalized grades 3–5 to create smaller math classes. Staff announced a LEGO League competition to be hosted in December for grades 5–7, a 5th‑grade after‑school student council, expanded keyboarding and STEM time, and increased bilingual support for parent communication and instruction. The district said it will keep the student handbook online and offer printed copies or library access for families without internet.
Board members praised recruitment outcomes and urged staff to continue monitoring class sizes and staffing balance as the year progresses. The meeting closed with calendar and communications reminders for upcoming athletic and parent events.
