State asks municipalities to submit protected-land data for VPLD; presenter says she is leaving state role

At the June 10 Planning Advisory Committee meeting, Darren Schibler introduced Paige Gebhardt of VT Forests, Parks, & Recreation to discuss submissions to the Vermont Protected Land Database (VPLD).
Gebhardt walked through how municipal GIS data and map comments can be submitted to increase the database's accuracy and integration. The presentation included guidance on the submission process and categories that help the State clarify the purpose of mapped parcels.
Gebhardt said she is leaving her position with the State at the end of the month and asked staff to submit data in the next few weeks to support integration work. CCRPC staff noted that updated State data also helps local planners keep town plan maps accurate; M. Needle, CCRPC GIS and IT Manager, suggested municipalities submit any parcel they are unsure about and let the State determine whether it belongs in the protected-land inventory.
Members asked whether municipal parks that are not permanently conserved belong in the database; staff responded it depends on specific circumstances and that the categories in the tool help clarify that distinction. The State tool will continue to accept submissions after the immediate integration window, the presenter said.
