Cayce council holds work session to shape city vision, emphasizes Riverwalk, partnerships and service priorities

The City of Cayce City Council and staff met for a work session on March 18, 2026, at Southern First on Knox Abbott Drive to conduct a facilitated visioning exercise and identify priorities for the coming term, Mayor Elise Partin said at the opening of the meeting.
Mayor Elise Partin called the session to order at 12:00 PM. Mendy Corder, municipal clerk, confirmed that press and the public were notified under the Freedom of Information Act. Council Member Byron Thomas gave the invocation, and Partin led the assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Council members and staff participated in a partner-based introductory exercise in which each person introduced a partner and described a favorite place in Cayce, a favorite meal and dining location, and a memorable personal journey. Facilitators and participants described the activity as team building that reinforced shared values and an appreciation for the city’s natural assets, particularly the Riverwalk.
From those conversations, council and staff identified several priorities to guide future work: strengthening partnerships across local, state and federal governments; delivering improved customer service across all departments; continuing community-oriented policing to build public trust; increasing community engagement, communication and transparency; supporting employees through resources and recognition; and improving internal efficiency and workflows. Participants emphasized translating the vision into action through strategic planning, targeted redevelopment initiatives and infrastructure investment.
The session’s visioning discussion centered on shared goals for quality of life and community-centered growth, with repeated references to promoting equity and inclusion, reinforcing a strong sense of place, and advancing organizational excellence and collaboration among Council, staff and the community.
No executive session was held during the workshop. At 5:05 PM, Council Member Tiffany Aull moved to adjourn; Council Member Alice Rose seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously by roll call vote, and the meeting adjourned.
