The Select Board unanimously affirmed the appointment of John Arnett as Falmouth’s new finance director on July 13 and approved a waiver of the department-head residency requirement so Arnett can begin next Monday, July 20.
Town Manager presented a recruitment summary noting 20 applicants and two rounds of interviews; Arnett addressed the board and described his municipal finance background including prior municipal finance director roles and work on municipal ERP systems. "My job is to ensure that there's transparency and logic behind everything that happens," Arnett said, citing experience with enterprise funds and municipal ERP implementations as tools to improve budget transparency and efficiency.
Board members asked about Arnett’s experience with operational deficits and tax overrides. Arnett said he’s worked on budget balancing measures, enterprise funds and process-driven efficiencies and that he had experience with override processes and capital/operating options.
The board voted to affirm his appointment and approve the residency waiver; the vote was unanimous.
What’s next: Arnett is scheduled to start work the week of July 20; town staff said reporting and onboarding steps will follow normal department-head procedures.
