NGCDD executive committee okays developing list of inclusive authors to support disability-community reading projects

The Nevada Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities Executive Committee approved a plan Feb. 5 to develop a continuing list of inclusive authors to support reading and partnership projects for the disability community.
Catherine Nielsen, the council’s executive director, described the project as a way to identify Nevadan authors who are individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) or who have been significantly impacted by the disability community and who have not previously received Council support. Nielsen said the list would be ongoing and that additions would come before the Full Council for approval; she also said the list could be opened to authors beyond Nevada.
Stacy Alaribe moved to approve development of the list of inclusive authors; Vickie Ives seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
The committee did not adopt specific selection criteria at the Feb. 5 meeting; staff said they will prepare a draft process and present it for future council consideration.
