Council accepts Charter Revision Commission draft, orders committee review and public hearing

Council Member P. Buzaid moved to waive the reading and accept the draft report; Council Member McAllister moved to receive the communication and send the report to the Committee of the Whole and a public hearing on the same day. Council Member Fay asked whether a counter motion would be in order and whether the council could divide the question. Corporation Counsel Dan Casagrande advised that the council may send the item to a public hearing and Committee of the Whole in one motion and explained options for dividing the question if members desired further procedural action.
The council accepted the draft report and ordered the combined referral and public hearing; the motion carried and no amendment was adopted on the floor at the meeting.
What happens next: the Committee of the Whole and the public hearing are to be scheduled on the same day for further consideration of the charter draft.
