Insurance agent urges Caledonia to set higher liquor liability limits; council schedules July 13 hearing

Hope Turner of Danielson Insurance Agency spoke to the Caledonia City Council on June 22 about the city’s liquor liability requirements. Turner said insurers are limited to writing liquor liability coverage only up to the levels required in local ordinance and that the city’s current ordinance does not specify a maximum coverage limit.
Turner asked the council to consider adopting an ordinance that sets a higher maximum coverage limit. City Clerk/Administrator Jake Dickson told the council he will schedule a hearing to consider an updated ordinance on July 13, 2026.
No formal motion to amend the ordinance was recorded on June 22; the council’s action was to direct staff to schedule the public hearing. The discussion was limited to the insurance presentation and the scheduling direction; no public comment on the issue was recorded at the meeting.
