Marion council holds closed session on real estate; authorizes HR director to brief Town Manager
Summary
Pursuant to Va. Code §2.2-3711(A)(3) the Town Council entered closed session Feb. 17 to discuss real estate acquisition, later certified the closed session and authorized HR Director Samantha White to discuss pertinent closed-session information with Town Manager Andrew Keen.
The Town Council of Marion convened a closed session Feb. 17 under Code of Virginia §2.2-3711(A)(3) to discuss real estate acquisition. Suzanne Jennings moved to enter closed session; Tricia Spencer seconded the motion, which the council approved by a 7–0 vote.
After returning to open session, the council certified that only matters legally exempted in the motion were discussed, with Mrs. Jennings’ motion to certify seconded by Dr. Jim Gates and approved unanimously.
The council also approved a separate motion allowing Samantha White, the town’s director of human resources, to discuss pertinent information from the closed session with Town Manager Andrew Keen. The authorization was made by a motion from Larry Carter, seconded by Hunter Atwell, and carried 7–0. The minutes record that the substance of the closed-session discussion was not disclosed in open session.
