Board hears Safe Harbor update, summer‑program results and strategic‑planning timeline

The Woodford County Board heard a set of district program updates spanning alternative education, summer learning results and the proposed timeline for a new strategic plan.
Logan Culpeyson, principal of Safe Harbor Academy and the Woodford Virtual Learning Academy, told trustees that Safe Harbor serves roughly 35 in‑person high‑school students and that WVLA is a grade‑9–12 virtual/hybrid program. Culpeyson described the programs as individualized learning pathways with project‑based learning, co‑op and career collaborations, and a continuing emphasis on mental‑health and attendance data to tailor student supports. "We will prepare all students to be college, career and life ready citizens," Culpeyson said.
Bill Adams of Studer Education presented the strategic‑planning approach the district will use this fall, saying the vendor will gather stakeholder input through seven focus groups and convene a steering committee to draft priorities. Adams outlined a timeline that anticipates the steering‑committee kickoff around Oct. 23 and a working draft to the board by the Jan. 26 meeting.
On summer programming, the district's summer‑program lead described an elementary enrichment/intervention program run with Pearson. The presentation reported AIMSweb progress among students receiving interventions: kindergarten 83% (10 of 12 students showed progress), 1st grade 72%, 2nd grade 54%, 3rd grade 46% and 4th grade 71%. The presenters noted Pearson's grant cycle is ending and that planning for summer 2026 will depend on the district's final budget decisions.
Board members praised the partnerships and encouraged continued transparency and communication as the strategic plan and summer programming are finalized.
