Marion council approves $2.76 million in payments, refers rec building flooring to committee

At its Jan. 20 meeting the Marion Town Council approved $2,757,082.92 in accounts, approved minutes and the agenda, referred a Recreation Building flooring issue to the Recreation Committee, entered and certified a closed session, and adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
The Marion Town Council voted unanimously Wednesday to approve accounts totaling $2,757,082.92 and completed several routine procedural items, including approval of the Jan. 5 minutes and the meeting agenda.
Dr. Jim Gates moved approval of the accounts and Suzanne Jennings seconded; the council voted 8 AYES and 0 NOES. Earlier in the meeting Larry Carter moved, and Todd May seconded, approval of the Jan. 5 minutes; that motion also passed 8–0. Suzanne Jennings moved approval of the meeting agenda, seconded by Todd May; the motion passed unanimously.
The council referred a flooring issue at the Recreation Building to the Recreation Committee after a motion from Larry Carter, seconded by Debra Hayes; that referral passed 8–0. Council also entered Closed Session under the Code of Virginia §2.2-3711 (A-3 and A-5) for disposition of publicly held property and a prospective business; Suzanne Jennings moved to enter Closed Session (seconded by Dr. Gates) and later moved the certification to return to Open Session (seconded by Hunter Atwell). The clerk polled council members and all voted affirmatively to certify that only the authorized topics were discussed.
Town Clerk Cindy Stanley reminded members that Statement of Economic Interests forms are due Feb. 1, 2026.
The meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m. on a motion by Suzanne Jennings, seconded by Larry Carter; the vote was 8 AYES, 0 NOES.
