Fire and EMS chiefs report heavy storm activity; police note domestic violence program implemented

Marion — Fire/EMS and police leaders told the Town Council on Feb. 2 that municipal emergency services saw heightened activity during the recent winter storm.
Fire/EMS Chief Rusty Hamm said the department logged 109 calls for service since the snowstorm began and reported that an ambulance slid into a ditch during the ice storm but sustained no damage. Hamm said the department will have a final inspection of a new fire engine in Appleton, Wisconsin, during the first week of March and that the Virginia State EMS inspection is scheduled for Feb. 12, 2026. He also said he will attend the Chief’s Conference Feb. 16–20.
Police Chief Kevin Testerman told council that a domestic violence program was implemented a couple of weeks ago and that he will attend a Chief’s Conference in Richmond this week.
Town Manager Andrew Keen reported that Public Works applied approximately 300 tons of a salt-and-gravel mixture to town roads during the storm. Council approved a motion to provide a meal for town staff in recognition of their work during the storm.
Council did not announce any further operational changes or emergency declarations at the meeting. The council adjourned at 7:17 p.m.
