Woodford County schools present strategic vision draft and four pillars after stakeholder engagement

Superintendent Doctor Jones presented a draft strategic vision to the Woodford County Public Schools board on Dec. 16, summarizing months of stakeholder work and recommending four pillars to guide district priorities.

Jones said the steering committee and focus groups informed the motto the group proposed: "Woodford County Public Schools' legacy of excellence, future of opportunity." She told the board the process included 12 focus groups and about 890 survey responses and described the draft mission as aiming to "cultivate portrait‑ready learners by offering a safe and engaging environment and by harnessing the dedication of staff and the support of the community."

Why it matters: The draft frames board and staff priorities for the next years and will be used to align school improvement plans and district measures. Jones said the board will receive measures tied to each pillar for regular reporting.

Pillars: Jones and steering‑committee members described four supporting pillars: (1) Successful engaged students (using the district's portrait of a learner to guide instruction), (2) skilled and committed teams (hiring, mentoring and training), (3) community partnerships (strengthening two‑way communication and trust) and (4) stewardship (responsible management of facilities and resources). Board member Doctor Surgent and others highlighted the effort to include broad community perspectives.

Board reaction and next steps: Board members repeatedly praised the speed and thoroughness of the work. Jones said staff will return with measures and goals and asked the board to review the draft over the coming month so final language and metrics can be presented in January.
