Board approves routine items, rejects stipend change; financial report accepted

At its Oct. 27 meeting the Woodford County Board of Education approved routine business items and debated several personnel and budget items.

The board approved the consent agenda and accepted personnel notifications and minutes in routine votes. The payment of bills was approved in a 4‑1 vote; the minutes record other routine items passing unanimously.

A proposal to add a $500 stipend on the salary schedule for an administrator to coordinate district or regional tournaments drew extended discussion about who would be eligible, how the stipend would be split, and whether the cost should come from tournament receipts or the general fund. Several board members asked for clearer policy about stipends across extracurricular activities. The motion to approve the salary schedule modification failed on a 2‑3 vote.

The board approved a shortened school day/shortened week proposal (vote recorded 5‑0) and approved creation of a special‑education position to keep caseloads within state limits (vote recorded 5‑0). Hardship applications were approved and an executive session was called under Kentucky statute for student discipline, real property and pending litigation; no action was reported from executive session.

Board members said they want clearer written guidance on when stipends apply and how tournament revenue and costs are handled, and asked administrators to bring back more detail when similar proposals are presented.
