Bedford County commissioners approve notaries and copier contract, hear trustee and deeds reports

The board unanimously approved the minutes from its June 9 meeting after a motion and second. Commissioners then approved the slate of notaries for August 2026 and voted to renew the copier contract for Community Middle School; both measures passed by voice vote with no opposition recorded.
The county trustee delivered the last quarterly report of the term, outlining receipts, disbursements and year-end trial balances. The trustee reviewed property-tax aggregates, credit-card and e-check trends tied to new software, and said that, based on historical tracking, "it's probably gonna be at $26,000,000" in sales-tax collections for the year. The trustee also described how a separate sweep account is used to monitor insured cash-sweep activity and compared returns to the local government investment pool.
Register of Deeds staff reported recording activity for the quarter and year to date. The register said the office recorded 389 deeds this quarter and reported year-to-date revenue of about $2.79 million, with quarterly revenue of $844,639. The register also noted more than 2,500 residents had signed up for property-fraud alerts and warned property owners to watch for unauthorized "for sale" signs placed on vacant land.
The board recognized community high school softball state champions and their coaches, with commissioners praising the teams’ work ethic and season records. Several community announcements followed, including the postponement of a Jim Tracy naming event to early September, a senior-center spaghetti fundraiser scheduled for Aug. 20, a July 31 time-capsule event (with a commemorative booklet for the first 100 participants), and a Flat Creek community supper on Aug. 1.
With no further business, the board moved to adjourn.
