Carter told the board that Derstine’s six‑month inspection found failed equipment at the Bayberry and I‑95 towers and that “the total cost for the work, $65,060.00.” He said the repairs must be made as soon as possible because TTHM and HAA5 compliance testing is scheduled in a few weeks.
The budget amendment moved $65,060 into Water Operations, with $37,260 allocated to Bayberry tank repairs and $27,800 to I‑95 tank repairs. Vice‑Mayor Kimberly Davis moved to approve Budget Amendment 2026‑012; Commissioner Neil DeMatt seconded the motion, which the board approved unanimously. The board then approved two requisitions to Derstine Company LLC for the amounts above following motions by Commissioner DeMatt and a second by Commissioner Catherine Bernard‑Dutton.
Mayor Kelly Benson asked about a separate permit related to mine water reviewed by the Maryland Department of the Environment; Town Administrator Melissa Cook‑MacKenzie said staff are coordinating with Rebecca Mason, project manager for ENTECH Engineering, and continuing systematic review of the matter.
The board’s action authorizes the town to proceed with the repairs and payments to Derstine so the required water‑quality testing can proceed on schedule. The board adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
