Jordan said staff are organizing draft guidelines around three pillars — context (new buildings should respect existing street character), connection (buildings should contribute to a high-quality public realm), and craft (materials and details should reflect durable design) — and that the process will revisit signage guidance, pedestrian experience, alley activation and sustainability topics such as solar integration. Jordan said the work is at a high level now and that more detailed draft content will be presented to the commission in coming months.
Commissioners received the update without formal action; staff characterized the effort as a follow-up to the district plan adopted in 2019 and said the guidelines will aim to clarify which guidelines apply to specific kinds of façade work so permit review is more predictable.
