Students honored as superintendent reports progress on district goals and safety drills

At the Feb. 9 meeting of the Franklin Borough School District Board of Education, school leaders presented student recognitions and a district goals update.
Dr. John R. Giacchi, the superintendent, and Dr. Vallacchi, the principal, presented PBSIS RAM Champion awards to second-grade students Aylin Lopez and Hayley Maguire and third-grade students Keniah Cruz Contreras and Nirvana DeLoache. National Junior Honor Society students provided school updates earlier in the presentations portion of the meeting.
Superintendent Giacchi reported the district is 'halfway through our District Goals Update,' said the district offers a well-rounded educational program and highlighted the Social and Emotional Program (PBSIS) as part of efforts to provide a nurturing, safe environment. He also noted that Franklin Borough School will be closed for winter break on Feb. 16 and 17, 2026.
The board recorded a William Paterson University practicum placement: teacher candidate Hannah Posser is assigned to preschool one day per week from Jan. 22 through May 13, 2026. The board also reported two safety drills in January: a fire drill on Jan. 13 (1:29 p.m.) and a bomb-threat shelter-in-place drill on Jan. 29 (9:44 a.m.).
These program updates and recognitions were presented under the Superintendent’s and school leadership reports and required no further board action at the meeting.
