Sheriff reports spike in calls for service; new deputy to start in August

Sheriff Ruhl reported to the Richland County Board of Commissioners on July 22 that the sheriff's office is on pace to handle roughly 12,000 calls for service this year, up from about 8,000 last year.
Ruhl said department patrols covered Christine over the previous weekend and that most speeding tickets issued during that period were for local drivers. He also told the board the department expects a new deputy to start at the end of August.
The sheriff distributed a year-to-date Calls for Service report to commissioners; no further personnel actions were taken at the meeting.
