Jefferson County awards construction and trade contracts for Human Services Building security and reception renovation

Jefferson County’s Board of Legislators on June 2 authorized a set of contracts for the Human Services Building reception security and renovation project and amended the bond authorization based on favorable bid results.
Resolution No. 175 authorizes the Chairman to execute agreements with low bidders for general construction and trade work for the reception security, client meeting area renovations and related facility improvements. Named vendors and not-to-exceed amounts include Con Tech Building Systems, Inc. (general construction) for up to $1,600,850; Hyde‑Stone Mechanical Contractors, Inc. (mechanical) up to $336,811; J.E. Sheehan Contracting Corp. (plumbing) up to $312,900; Tri County Electric (electrical) up to $244,300; and Bernier, Carr & Associates (construction management) up to $50,000. The resolution authorizes change orders as recommended by the County Administrator and Director of Aviation, not to exceed available appropriations.
The Board noted that, because bid results were favorable, the total bond issuance authorized earlier for the project will be $4,000,000 rather than the earlier $5,000,000 estimate. Legislator Steel E. Potter presented the resolution; Christopher S. Boulio seconded it and all members present voted aye.
County officials said the project will modernize the reception entrance to improve screening of visitors and to upgrade client meeting areas and staff workspace. The resolution directs the Chairman to execute the agreements subject to County Attorney review and authorizes contract administration as recommended by the County Administrator.
Next steps: execution of contracts, any required change orders within available appropriations, and project construction under the supervision of county project staff and the contracted construction manager.
