Richland County sets soils committee timeline; state's attorney to draft letter on Barrie Township land issue

At the Oct. 21 meeting the Richland County Board of Commissioners discussed staffing and planning for a soils committee and set timing expectations for related assessor work. Melissa Brown was identified as the person who will contact potential committee members and was asked to provide an average price per acre by the beginning of December.
Administrative personnel Sandy Fossum advised the commission that a decision on the soils committee and related matters will be needed by the end of January so the county assessors have time to complete required work. Separately, Jesse Sedler reported an issue with a landowner in Barrie Township, and State's Attorney Kummer said he will draft a letter to the landowner and the township chair to address the matter.
Commissioner Perry Miller reported meeting with the mayor of Fairmount to discuss housing. The Tax & Property Department filed a revenue voucher for September 2025. Commissioner Terry Goerger moved to adjourn; the meeting ended at 8:57 A.M.
