Franklin Borough School honors students and staff; board adopts policy updates and amends calendar

The March 23 meeting opened with student presentations from the National Junior Honor Society and recognition of PBSIS RAM Champions. Superintendent John R. Giacchi, Principal Dr. Vallacchi and Board President Kathleen Clohessey presented awards to students and recognized staff including Kaley Salzo and awardees Kenza M’jahad (Governor’s Educator of the Year) and Nicole Paragh (Governor’s Services Professional of the Year).
The board approved multiple policy actions by roll call, including second reading and adoption of Bylaw 0142.1 (Nepotism), Policy 1220 (Employment of Chief School Administrator) and Policy & Regulation 1552 (Sexual Harassment – Staff), and abolished older sexual harassment policies and related complaint procedures. The board also approved second readings of policies addressing resource and library materials and public complaints.
In education committee business the board approved the 2026-2027 preschool budget planning worksheet and narrative, a preschool filed trip to William Paterson University for March 6, 2026 (transportation costs only), and home instruction arrangements for student #******7469. The district calendar for 2025-2026 was amended to move the last day to Wednesday, June 17, 2026 with 8th grade graduation scheduled for 7:00 p.m. that evening.
