County tax director says State Board recommends exploring new PI formula for ag land

At the Oct. 7 meeting the Richland County Tax Director, Melissa Brown, reported on an Oct. 2 State Board of Equalization session that reviewed appeals of agricultural land valuations.
Brown said Richland County was found to be in compliance on protested values in Walcott West Township. She added that the State Board recommended the county consider exploring a different productivity index (PI) formula when assessing agricultural land and that the formation of a new soils committee was discussed; Brown said she will contact potential committee members.
The board did not take formal action on the recommendation at the meeting. Brown presented the report as information and indicated follow‑up steps would include outreach to potential soils committee members.
