Commission hears recycling complaints but says changing to weekly pickup would require rebidding the contract
Summary
A commissioner asked whether recycling could return to weekly pickup after resident complaints; city staff said the existing contract requires rebidding to change service frequency, and commissioners urged residents to break down boxes and use available recycling sites. EcoTech’s policy of not leaving the truck to pick loose items under county ordinance was explained.

During new business on May 19, a commissioner raised resident complaints about recycling service and asked whether the city could move recycling pickup to weekly. The mayor and other commissioners said the current contract would have to be rebid to change service frequency.
"If we do any changes in the contract, it has to be rebid out," the mayor said, noting the city is still within a multi‑year contract. Commissioners and staff discussed how resident behavior (boxes not broken down) and truck design affect collection; EcoTech follows county ordinance and will not leave the vehicle to pick up loose items for insurance and safety reasons.
City staff also reported a localized complaint on Bay Run Drive: the commissioner said she photographed the street and found scattered paper and a small box, and that she exchanged emails with EcoTech operations and forwarded photos to the provider. The city encouraged residents to use existing recycling drop-off locations for material that does not fit curbside requirements.
No contract change was approved; commissioners requested continued monitoring and urged better resident compliance with containerization rules.
