Siskiyou supervisors unanimously extend local drought emergency

The Siskiyou County Board of Supervisors voted to extend the county's local drought emergency following a brief presentation from the director of emergency services.
"According to the request for the local emergency for the drought...the new drought report will come out tomorrow," said Brian Schneeck, director of emergency services, who asked the board to continue the declaration. Staff noted a roughly 10% change from the prior month in the drought metrics presented to the board.
Supervisors discussed the regional pattern of drought impacts and agreed an extension would allow continued coordination and response. A motion to extend the local emergency was made and seconded and passed on recorded voice votes.
The board did not specify additional emergency spending at the meeting; staff indicated they would continue to monitor conditions and provide the upcoming drought report to the board.
