Francis Hill urges Anniston City Council to enforce nuisance abatement at six properties

Francis Hill urged the Anniston City Council on Thursday to move quickly on code enforcement for two nuisance properties and other problem sites while the council opened a public hearing on proposed abatements.
The hearing, announced by the council’s presiding member, covered objections to proposed abatement orders affecting six properties: 2508 Boulevard Avenue; 409 K Street; 3022 Granny Avenue; 2630 McCoy Avenue; 1316 Johnston Drive; and 3026 Walnut Avenue. The council said it would receive public comment on the objections to the abatements.
"I have seen such tremendous changes in the city since you've been in office," Francis Hill said, thanking the council for recent work. She told the council she and neighbors had tried to reach Councilman Tolleson about conditions near East 22nd Street and had received no response. "We have two nuisance properties," Hill said, asking the council to route those addresses to code enforcement.
The presiding council member responded that staff would collect the specific addresses and refer them to code enforcement to begin the process. The council also reminded speakers that public comment is limited to three minutes and asked commenters to state their names and addresses for the record.
No formal vote on the abatements was recorded during the hearing. The council adopted its consent agenda earlier in the meeting and listed the abatement hearing among items to be considered; any final action on the individual properties was not taken at this session.
