Maiden Rock accepts lower crushed-rock bid, notes storm damage and patrolman departure

The Maiden Rock Town Board on Oct. 13 accepted a low bid from Greg Bechel to supply 3,000 tons of 3/4" crushed rock at $11.75 per ton for township road work. The Pierce County Highway bid was $12.32 per ton. Supervisor John Danneker moved to accept Bechel's bid; Chairman Jerry F. Duden seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.
Board members also reported that a disaster-relief application submitted to the county for storm damage on Rustic Road and Pine Creek was denied; Elbe is providing assistance to repair the road. Town culverts have been repaired, and roughly half the township mowing was completed. The town's gravel pile remains available for town use after the property changed ownership.
Chairman Duden announced highway patrolman Cole Kangas will leave at the end of November for a position with Eau Galle Township. The board said it will post employment advertisements to fill the patrolman position.
