Alabama Board withdraws arrest authorization, grants several pardons and paroles at June meeting

At an open meeting on June 18, 2026, in Montgomery, the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles voted to withdraw a Parole Officer Authorization of Arrest and ordered the release of Rodger Granger (AIS# 334459). The board also approved a change in special conditions for Mitchell Jordan (AIS# 338329), removing an "Out of State" condition and adding a "Detainer" condition, and took votes on a docket of pardon and parole requests.
The two-member board — Chair Hal Nash and Associate Member Gabrelle Simmons — approved the minutes of the June 17, 2026 meeting and recorded actions through the board secretary, Nicole Lewis. The meeting ran from 8:46 a.m. to 4:09 p.m. and covered dozens of individual case decisions listed on the docket.
Among pardon decisions, the board granted a full pardon restoring all civil and political rights to Stephanie S. Fitts (AIS# 211327) and Darrell Wade (AIS# 257358). In Wade’s case the board also voted to grant remission of fines in case No. 61CC2007-635. The board granted pardons with specified restrictions (relief from the habitual offender law and firearms disabilities) to William F. Collins (AIS# 154251), Frederick A. Purifoy (AIS# 140276) and Sherri L. Bennett (AIS# 285021). In one case the board restored voting rights only to Bob C. People (AIS# 117237).
On parole decisions, the board granted parole with conditions in several cases. Leo A. Nunez Jr. (AIS# 263923) was granted parole with requirements to complete an approved halfway house, wear a GPS ankle monitor and complete a drug assessment upon release. Eunice K. Collier (AIS# 323766) was granted parole contingent on completion of a substance-abuse program, attendance at NA/AA, GPS monitoring and a drug assessment. Other parole grants with conditions included Marvin O. Chavez Canales (AIS# 341234), Erin Scarpitti (AIS# 286048) and Orlandus L. Swoopes (AIS# 261887), each subject to program enrollment, monitoring and assessments as specified on the docket.
The board denied numerous parole and pardon requests. Examples include a unanimous denial of a pardon for Ted A. Sanders (AIS# 132293) and a unanimous denial of parole for Alex R. Walley (AIS# 281723), which the board recorded with a reset date of June 2031. Several other denials carried reset dates in future years; some denials were recorded with no reset date.
Procedural items and document attachments were recorded in the meeting packet, including board orders formalizing the change to Mitchell Jordan’s special condition and the withdrawal of the arrest authorization for Rodger Granger.
