Westfield says paving of 40 roads will begin soon; organic storm debris pickup continues

A council member (speaker 3) said the town has 40 roads or road sections on this year's list, about 10 of which are adjacent to or near schools and will be done first so work is completed before school openings. He said the ADA-compliant concrete portion and other preparatory work should take about two weeks, followed by milling and paving; the milling/paving portion is expected to begin Aug. 3.
Officials also updated the public on organic storm debris cleanup after storms on July 3-4. Speaker 3 said town crews began a town-authorized organic storm debris pickup on July 6 and that the volume has been higher than expected. As of the end of the business day reported at the meeting, crews were working in Zone 5 on the north side and Zone 9 on the south side and expected to finish the town's scheduled pickups this week; if the county does not clear debris on county-owned roads within Westfield, town crews will follow up to collect organic debris from homes on those county roads.
