Planning staff recommends Montrose County opt out of state EV charging streamlining bill

County planning staff recommended that commissioners opt out of House Bill 24-1173, a state measure that encourages local governments to adopt streamlined regulations and procedures for electric-vehicle charging stations. The planner said the county has not had requests for public EV-charging facilities and that, given limited commercial space, the county likely would not see significant applications under the streamlined rules.
Planning staff told the board the opt-out would be implemented as a zoning-regulations amendment and could be revisited during a later, more comprehensive zoning update. "I'm proposing we opt out of that and, add it to my list of potential changes to the next zoning regulations update," the planner said, noting that the decision must be made by the end of the year.
Commissioners raised no objections during the work-session review; staff suggested the item could be moved to the consent agenda for adoption or left for further discussion if members preferred.
