Montrose Recreation District asks county for letter of support for enterprise-zone tax credits

Representatives of the Montrose Recreation District briefed the board on a proposed Enterprise Zone tax-credit application and asked the county to consider a letter of support for the Region 10/OEDIT application. Steinbach, identified as the MRD executive director, told commissioners the application would include four capital projects: a new maintenance facility on Anderson Road, rehabilitation of Ute and McNeil Field (design stemming from last year's master plan work), a field-house refurbishment or renovation, and an open-space acquisition on the east side of town under consideration.
Steinbach said the tax credit could ease donations and lower transaction costs if land were donated and that the application frames the projects as supporting economic development under Region 10 priorities: livable communities, workforce attraction and business support. "We think there's an overlap with the county goals," Steinbach said, adding that parcel identification and project details are provisional and would require further county conversations when specific properties intersect with county holdings.
Commissioners asked whether specific open-space parcels were identified; Steinbach replied that only the east side parcel was being considered now and that others would be identified in future years. The board did not object to the request and staff indicated the letter could be added to the consent agenda for approval.
