Staff presented bids for an asphalt street reconstruction package funded from the city's tax note. The base bid for three streets (Red Bud, West Belton and San Gabriel) totaled $402,860; alternate number one (Houston) was $117,080, and the lone responsive bidder was Salvation Site Services (Stallion/Salvation Site Services). Staff recommended award of the full package including alternates; council approved the award and will return with a small budget amendment to cover the additional funds required.
Council and staff discussed construction sequencing (Red Bud prioritized), the need to coordinate with utilities and possible tree removals in medians where roots have damaged pavement. Staff said two of the large median trees appear to be in the public right-of-way and committed to consult an arborist and speak with affected homeowners before removal or root mitigation.
What happens next: staff will finalize contract paperwork, require performance and payment bonds, set a pre-construction meeting with the contractor and coordinate tree/utility work and resident notifications.
