Kingsburg police report shows 18% drop in Part 1 crimes year‑to‑date; staffing changes and training noted

Lieutenant Lee Forlines presented the police department’s quarterly report covering April 1–June 30, 2026. Forlines said the city recorded 55 Part 1 incidents year‑to‑date — an 18% drop compared with the same period last year — and summarized other metrics including 191 investigated incidents, 67 arrests in the period, 16 traffic collisions and 5,238 calls for service (34% officer‑initiated, 66% citizen‑initiated).
Forlines also described operational items: a recent stabbing investigation with ongoing warrants, bicycle and e‑bike enforcement and education, grant funding for alcohol enforcement, acquisition of new patrol vehicles and new duty firearms, drone capability, and recruitment and promotions in the department. He said staffing losses included a sergeant and an officer who left for other state positions; the department has a reserve hire and a cadet entering graduation this week and is conducting oral boards for additional hires.
Council thanked the department for its work and asked about reasons for the decline in Part 1 crimes. Forlines credited community cooperation, proactive enforcement, and strong community engagement as contributing factors while noting localized dynamics and small numbers can skew percentages.
