Conservation commission approves Bayberry Lane revetments with planting, pruning and timing conditions
Summary
The commission approved revetment reconstructions and associated planting plans at 15 and 11 Bayberry Lane, requiring a July 6 planting plan, maintenance of existing cedars, a 3–5 foot undulating pruning regime for vista management, an as-built submittal and seasonal timing limits for stair removal (Nov. 15–Apr. 15).
The commission approved two shoreline projects on Bayberry Lane after applicants provided revised plans and additional detail on planting and access.
At 15 Bayberry Lane, Cape Cod Engineering’s Bob Perry and landscape installer Laura Kelly presented a revision that limits vegetation alteration to a narrow access corridor through an existing driveway, minimizes disturbance to a coastal embankment and lays out a nine-step protocol for root removal and replanting. The plan includes reconstruction of a stone revetment, relocation of a beach stairway, planting of native species (rose, bearberry, beach grasses and other native shrubs) and an annual nourishment estimate of about 130 cubic yards. Laura Kelly explained she would overseed and hand-plant native beach grasses and monitor regrowth.
Commissioners required that existing cedars be maintained where present, that the planting plan dated July 6 be followed, that vegetation pruning be limited to an undulating 3–5 foot height range (no topping or hedge trimming), and that seasonal timing restrictions apply to stair removal (Nov. 15–Apr. 15). The commission also required as-built documentation and standard revetment-with-nourishment special conditions. The motion passed by recorded vote.
Separately, commissioners approved the revetment proposal at 11 Bayberry Lane with the same standard nourishment and as-built conditions after confirming the DEP filing number.
The orders require follow-up monitoring and a certificate-of-compliance review after work is complete.
