Wasco County certifies May 19 primary results; Commission runoffs set

County Clerk Chrissy Zaugg read the certified results of the May 19, 2026 primary election into the official record on July 1, 2026. The Clerk confirmed certification occurred June 10, 2026 (excluding precinct committee positions) and that a mandatory hand-count audit and an automatic recount in the 57th District Democratic nomination produced no changes to the original tallies.
In the Wasco County Commissioner races, Lisa Gamby and John Grant were the top two vote-getters and will proceed to a runoff for Commissioner Position 1 on November 3, 2026. For Commissioner Position 3, Mike Ernest and the late Phil Brady had been the top vote-getters; following Commissioner Brady’s passing, Clerk Zaugg said only Mike Ernest’s name will appear on the November ballot. Clerk Zaugg also confirmed that the mandatory hand-count audit held June 15 produced no changes.
Commissioners asked procedural questions about the recount and hand-count frequency; Zaugg said all-island write-in recounts are rare but occur when margins trigger automatic state-ordered recounts.
