Ashland committee raises concerns after DPW director departs amid stormwater compliance worries

Jeanne Walker told members that Doug Small, the longtime director of the Department of Public Works, has left Ashland and that the town has not yet announced a replacement. Walker and other members said the committee is working with Dan Maurer on stormwater management but expressed concern about limited financial resources to meet legislative requirements and about potential liability for fines for each day the town is not in compliance.
The committee did not vote on any specific stormwater action or funding at the meeting. Members said the committee will pause until fall because there is currently no capacity to advance new work while staffing and funding remain uncertain.
