EDC staff and council liaison report ordinance change, ribbon cutting and upcoming solar vote

Carlos Trejo, director of planning and community development, told the commission that the City Council adopted ordinance language that reduces the commission’s voting/quorum requirement so a meeting may proceed with a majority of commission members (three of five) rather than the higher threshold previously interpreted.
Trejo also updated commissioners on local development activity: a recent ribbon cutting for Brass Tap, ongoing recruitment talks with Paris Baguette (hoping to open by month end) and occupancy approvals for Irvington Place apartments. He said Rex 8 Ace Hardware has submitted a sign application for an available city site and staff is waiting for further material before it moves forward.
Councilmember Kate Bishon Hellman, the council liaison, said two citizen emails to communications@olivettemo.com had been trapped by a filter and the problem has been fixed. She noted the council will vote the following night on changes to the solar panel ordinance intended to streamline the permit process for residential installations and that new language on special permit use will include data centers to address known challenges for those facilities.
The commission accepted the staff reports and moved on to minutes and adjournment.
