Lookout Mountain commissioners approve minutes and financial report; hear safety, drainage and sidewalk concerns

The Town of Lookout Mountain Board of Commissioners met at Town Hall on June 9, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Mayor Jones called the meeting to order and the board approved the minutes of the May 12, 2026 meeting after a motion by Commissioner Leavengood and second by Commissioner Tugman.
Brooke Pippenger presented the financial report through May 2026. After discussion, Commissioner Bentley moved to approve the financial report; Commissioner Leavengood seconded and the board approved it. A copy of the approved report is attached as Exhibit B, according to the minutes.
In departmental reports, Commissioner Bentley said the Fire and Police Department is studying safety issues tied to alternate vehicles such as golf carts and electric scooters following a recent incident. The department has prepared a brochure describing Tennessee rules for those vehicles that will be mailed to all residents.
Commissioner Tugman, reporting for Parks and Playgrounds, said Commons Camp is experiencing record attendance with more than 50 campers participating each day. Renovations at the Navarre Pavilion are expected to be completed before the end of camp; Baseball All-Star season is underway and fall soccer registration is open.
Commissioner Leavengood reported the school building is being prepared for the August opening and the turf field replacement project is underway; registration information is posted on the Hamilton County School website. Commissioner Valadez reported on spring cleanup and ongoing road patchwork and said heavy use of Dumpster Day produced availability on the first two weekends of March, April and May.
During Citizen’s Input three residents raised local concerns. A West Brow Road resident described dangers on local roads posed by scooters and golf carts. A resident at the intersection of North Bragg and Watson Streets reported erosion and drainage problems affecting nearby properties. A South Bragg resident urged the town to install sidewalks to protect pedestrians, especially schoolchildren.
There was no formal vote recorded on the public-comment items. The minutes state the meeting was adjourned and the board will meet next on July 14, 2026.
