Eagle River council adopts yard-waste ordinance and approves broad slate of licenses and event permits

At its June 9 meeting, the Eagle River Common Council adopted Ordinance 605, updated multiple permits and licenses for the coming year, and approved an equipment purchase for downtown camera coverage.
Ordinance 605 amends Sec. 74-35 to reflect the city’s switch to a dumpster-based yard waste disposal system, including new branch-size limits and operating hours; the ordinance was adopted on a roll call vote with all members voting in favor.
Council approved a long list of retail and hospitality license renewals for the July 1, 2026–June 30, 2027 term contingent on licensees paying outstanding real-estate taxes and utility bills. The clerk’s packet listed agents and establishments by class; council carried the renewals.
The council granted multiple event-related approvals, including an over-highway banner for the Chamber’s Fairgrounds event (pending DOT permit), street-closure and vendor permits for WRJO Street Dances, parade permits for Northland Pines High School’s Homecoming, picnic licenses for specified events, direct-seller permits, and a taxi driver license for Christine Towne (VIP Group DBA Eagle River Taxi). The council also approved a Lorex camera equipment purchase of $2,383.64 for North Railroad/Farmers Market area and accepted several temporary-operator and direct-seller approvals as presented.
On a vote to approve payment of city and golf course bills recommended by the Finance Committee, the roll call recorded Ayes from Kim Schaffer, Vic Washelesky and Dan Dumas and an abstention from Jerry Burkett. The meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
