Council approves Bridge–Spruce bike/ped crossing with conditions and converts Main/Court yield to stop

The Eagle River Common Council approved a conditional plan to install a bike and pedestrian crossing at Bridge and Spruce streets and moved to change a traffic control at the Main and Court Street junction on June 9.
Council accepted the Planning Commission’s recommendation to approve the crossing plans provided several conditions are met: construction timing must be coordinated with the city, any alteration or removal of existing sidewalks along Railroad Street must be coordinated with the city, and push-button assemblies must be installed on both the east and west sides of Highway 45 and in the median. The motion to accept the recommendation passed on a roll call vote.
Separately, the Department of Public Works raised safety concerns at the Main and Court intersection. A motion to change the current Yield sign at the junction to a Stop sign carried on a roll call vote, with council members voting in favor.
Council directed staff to coordinate construction timing and hardware specifications with affected departments and to report back on schedule and installation plans.
