Beaufort County announces overnight county road closure for culvert work

Beaufort County announced an overnight closure of an island road causeway to allow a contractor to set the center section of a new culvert, starting at 9 p.m. Thursday and running to 6 a.m. Friday, weather dependent. The county said a second closure could be required Sunday night from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday if work is not completed.
County officials cautioned drivers that traffic could be delayed for up to about 15 minutes during the installation. The county said it is coordinating with the contractor and emergency responders to avoid disruptions to public safety services. “We understand that this will cause some inconvenience, and we appreciate your patience and understanding,” Matt Golden said in the county bulletin.
The county also said the contractor will set the first two sections of the culvert during daytime hours this week. Residents who rely on the causeway should plan alternate routes during the posted overnight closures and heed any posted detours.
