Commission hears ADA update: polling-place changes, site visits and CAM training reported

At its June 24 meeting the Fall River Commission on Disability received an ADA update that detailed recommended changes to municipal polling places and reported on recent site visits and Community Access Monitor (CAM) training.
Chairman Dennis Paul Celi summarized two documents the commission had received: proposed changes to polling places the commission recommended and a letter supporting the election commission’s recommendations. Commissioner Dan Robillard reported he and others accompanied Election Commissioner Ryan Lyons and housing-authority staff to review sites and described the site visits as thorough.
“We really dove in and looked at the issues, and parking was the biggest as well as security concerns around some of the housing authority places,” Commissioner Dan Robillard said, noting that removing a fire station from the polling plan should improve accessibility. Robillard said the changes that were before the city council were later addressed and approved by the full council.
The chair thanked Election Commissioner Ryan Lyons and others for their collaboration in developing the polling-place plan. Commissioners noted that if the Liberal Club is included in the final list the goal is to have changes in place for September; one participant added that state-level action may be needed and referenced Senator Feuelson as a potential shepherd in the legislature.
Chair also reported that the recent CAM training ‘went very, very well’ with local representation from the city and the housing authority; a site visit tied to the training remains under consideration and would likely occur next year.
Commissioners received a finance update and an outreach update noting scholarship payments are being processed but some institutions have yet to return vendor forms. The commission confirmed its next full meeting for Sept. 9, 2026 and adjourned.
