Miss Gilles reviewed the superintendent’s proposed operating budget for fiscal year 2026–27, presenting a preliminary total of $122,000,006.57 and noting the district will adopt the preliminary budget to take effect July 1 and revise it after the state finalizes its budget and VDOE posts allocations.
“The general assembly has not yet finalized the budget,” Miss Gilles said. “We are going with former Governor Youngkin’s budget numbers for now. The state changed the proposed bonus to a flat $1,500 to be paid out in September 2026 by our district; information on that bonus will be communicated to employees when they return in August.”
Board members asked how much the state changes could affect the district. Miss Gilles said the budget could change but staff anticipate changes will be positive and that final allocations will be brought back to the board in August for revision and approval.
The board moved to adopt the 2026–27 operating budget as presented. The clerk recorded a roll-call vote with Miss Averyt, Miss Walker, Miss Cunningham, Mister Payne and Mister Graves recorded as 'Yes', and the motion carried.
