School board approves higher meal, book and activity prices for 2026-27 school year

The Greene County Comm School District board voted to raise student meal prices and adjust related fees for the 2026-27 school year.
Chair (S1) told the board the elementary and middle school lunch price will increase to $3.00 and the high school lunch to $3.25, up from $2.55. "Breakfast will still be free at all 3 schools," S1 said, and the board emphasized that free and reduced-price categories will remain unchanged. The changes are intended to keep the district aligned with conference pricing and rising costs for officials and event operations.
S1 also described modest increases to student book fees (approximately $5 in some grade bands) and small raises to activity and gate ticket prices “to stay in alignment with our conference,” and said the changes are not a revenue-driving effort for the district. "It's not for any of it. It's not really for us to profit," S1 said.
Board members discussed whether reducing student activity prices had increased attendance in the past. S2 offered to compile purchase data to help assess whether lower student activity prices affect turnout.
The board approved the package of student book fees, meal prices and activity prices by roll call. Outcome: approved. Next steps: updated meal prices will be reflected in school communications ahead of the new school year.
