On July 7, 2026, the Mills County Board of Supervisors approved Resolution 26‑26, which corrects county property tax records after a taxpayer’s online payment was applied to the wrong parcel.
The resolution states that Don Fajardo intended to pay taxes on Parcel #024500030000000 (Oak Township, Glenwood Community School District) but submitted payment for Parcel #058780000000000; the Treasurer’s Office applied the payment to the parcel identified in the taxpayer’s online submission. The Board found the delinquency and subsequent issuance of Tax Sale Certificate No. 2026‑26032 resulted from the taxpayer’s erroneous payment rather than any error by the Treasurer’s Office.
The resolution directs the Treasurer to remove the payment from Parcel #058780000000000 and apply it to Parcel #024500030000000, cancel Tax Sale Certificate No. 2026‑26032, and adjust any penalties, interest or fees that accrued solely because of the error, to the extent allowed by law. The Board’s text expressly states that the action is not a finding of negligence by the Treasurer’s Office and authorizes the Treasurer to take all actions necessary under Iowa law to effect the correction.
The motion to approve Resolution 26‑26 passed by voice/roll-call (Ayes 3, Nays 0). The resolution text was included verbatim in the meeting record.
