Council appoints member to EMA advisory board; discusses mileage rates and a traffic-signal request

At its June 1 meeting the Washington County Council appointed Councilmember Andrew Davisson to serve on the county’s Emergency Management Agency (EMA) advisory board. Council President Brad Gilbert moved the appointment; the motion was seconded and passed.
Clerk Stephanie Rockey presented a spreadsheet comparing county mileage and per diem rates with examples at the state and federal level, showing rates ranging from $0.44 to $0.72 per mile and discussion of the county’s 50-mile meeting radius and the use of county vehicles for conferences. The council took the matter under advisement and asked the personnel committee to meet and make a formal recommendation to the commissioners.
During public comment, resident Jerry Walton asked the council to pursue installation of a stoplight at the intersection of State Road 60 and State Road 56; council members said the Indiana Department of Transportation is responsible for that intersection. Attorney Alyssa Cochran asked members to send questions or suggested policy changes ahead of budget hearings in August.
The council approved the previous meeting minutes at the start of the session and adjourned after completing business. Councilmember Wischmeier said the personnel committee will report back and Councilmember Davisson will serve on the EMA advisory board.
