Orford Selectboard reviews grants, bridge funding and town maintenance; approves ad and field use

Anna White, representing the Upper Valley Lake Sunapee Regional Planning Commission (UVLSRPC), briefed the Selectboard on a LISFF planning grant that will fund consultant planning for green‑infrastructure projects addressing stormwater runoff and flooding across participating New Hampshire and Vermont communities. White asked the board to identify local candidate sites (areas with runoff, flooding, sediment build-up, or planned paving/parking‑lot work) so consultants can select a suitable project; she emphasized that construction costs would remain the town’s responsibility and that consultants would deliver design and cost estimates for voter consideration.
On infrastructure updates, the board reported that the Indian Pond dual-culvert project is pending further response from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers after the board’s information request, and that the Archertown Bridge at Jacobs Brook project is 100% state funded for construction, although the town will still pay 20% of engineering fees. Parks & Playgrounds recommended accepting Herb Austic’s estimate to begin bandstand reconstruction; the board approved contacting Austic to start work.
Charles Smith raised concerns about cemetery mowing quality; Selectboard Chair Kevin Follensbee said he would attend a Cemetery Commission meeting on July 12 (posted as a Selectboard work session) to discuss standards.
In new-business items the board reviewed budget-to-actual reports with no issues, approved placing a highway-crew help-wanted ad on WYKR with a $100 total budget, and approved Just for Kicks Soccer’s request to use the Community Field after receiving proof of insurance and the $100 fee.
The board reviewed correspondence including state approval of a septic system at 20 Wheeler House Drive, a JP Pest bi-annual inspection report, several vehicle-safety recalls (including potential frozen rear-view cameras and battery-to-starter installation concerns on town vehicles), the Tri‑County annual report, and July 7 E. coli test results with pond readings below the recreational threshold (ponds <88; Jacobs Brook locations <406).
