Orford advances bridge firm selection and readies Indian Pond culvert work

The Selectboard reported progress on two infrastructure projects during its June 11 meeting, advancing the Archertown (Jacobs Brook) Bridge procurement and preparing for construction on the Indian Pond culvert.
A selection committee that included two Selectboard members and town staff rated RFQ submissions for the Archertown Bridge; the ratings resulted in a tie and the group agreed to recommend Wright‑Pierce of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Esther Dobbins‑Marsh will submit the documentation to the New Hampshire Department of Transportation for review and authorization to proceed.
Separately, the Indian Pond culvert project received a wetland permit. Charles Smith Jr. will contact the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to determine any additional requirements. The Road Agent will meet with contractor Paige Excavating and Selectboard representatives to set a construction date. The Selectboard agreed either the Road Agent or a Selectboard member will be on site to document work with photos and written records to submit to the New Hampshire Wetland Bureau after project completion.
Smith also noted beaver‑prevention devices that can protect culverts cost about $4,000 per culvert and that grant funds may be available to offset the cost; he will research options further.
