Orford board notes Health Officer vacancy and concerns about Memorial Day cemetery upkeep

At the May 28 meeting the Orford Board of Selectmen discussed a town Health Officer vacancy and concerns about cemetery maintenance reported after Memorial Day.
Selectboard member Charles Smith said he had photos showing poor mowing and trimming at town cemeteries and asked that the Cemetery Commission be asked to address the conditions; the Selectboard agreed that Smith should raise the concern with the Cemetery Commission first and then return to the board if further action is needed. Smith also noted that flag poles must be illuminated when flags are flown after sunset and suggested the Cemetery Commission ensure lights are working.
The board noted no volunteers had responded to the Town’s request for a Health Officer. Kevin Follensbee said he will contact Health Officers in nearby towns to see whether they can assist or serve in that role.
Correspondence items included an email from Health Trust regarding HB 297 and an email from NH DOT about Federal Highway Funds that requires no action by the Town, according to the minutes.
The board did not take formal action beyond agreeing to the proposed next steps.
